......................................................................................................................................................................................

Q: How many catalogs will Scholastic send to the school?
A:

Scholastic Book Clubs booklets each contain 20 (Star/Wizard/Ace) or 50 (Wizard/Ace) pieces of student catalogs in one booklet. Depending on the size of your student population, Scholastic will send the necessary catalogs to you at the beginning of each school term. Please indicate:

  • Average number of students in each class
  • Total number of classes
  • Age/School level
......................................................................................................................................................................................

Q: What books and other items can be found in the Book Clubs catalog?
A:

Chosen by expert editors, the selections cover a wide variety of formats, genres and themes. They include classics, award winners, recently released titles and books related to other popular children's media such as movies and television shows.

Children improve their reading skills BY READING, so providing the books they will WANT to read is a priority.

For reluctant readers, reading practice is encouraged by the inclusion of such items as graphic novels, puzzles, activity packs and games.

......................................................................................................................................................................................

Q: What other professional resources can teachers access through Book Clubs?
A:

Each issue will contain a special section called Teacher's Store, giving you practical, up-to-date classroom resources at discount prices.

......................................................................................................................................................................................

Q: How does a school run Scholastic Book Clubs?
A:

It's easy! Three  times a year, the school will receive the Book Clubs ordering materials. Each classroom teacher keeps the Teacher's Bulletin (cover) and hand out copies of the Book Club student catalog to the students.

Teachers may wish to go over the student catalog in class so students can be directed to particular books that will interest them. Be sure to set a date for students to return their order forms to the classroom teacher. Collect the order forms and money as they are submitted by the students.

Each school will nominate a coordinator who will then consolidate all the classrooms’ orders and submit to Scholastic through the Book Clubs coordinator or by mail or fax.

Each order helps your school increase its School Bonus Points which can be used to equip your school with great resources.

......................................................................................................................................................................................

Q: How does the classroom teacher keep track of students' orders?
A:

Make sure that each student's name is on their order form! Fill up the Classroom Summary sheet and keep the carbon copy for future reference. Collect and tally your students' orders and submit the students' order form together with the payment to the Book Clubs coordinator in your school. The coordinator will then consolidate all the classes' orders and submit to Scholastic.

......................................................................................................................................................................................

Q: How can the school make ordering easier?
A:

Here are some terrific tips for making ordering easier:

  • Indicate the due date for students on their student catalog
  • Pin up the poster in the Teacher’s Bulletin in the classroom with the due date written on the space provided.
  • Give students a reminder a few days prior to the due date.
  • Enlist the help of a parent volunteer to organise and send in the orders.
  • Get your students involved! Kids love to help hand out the student catalogs, collect orders and pass out the books. (You'll want to handle the money, of course.)
  • The hardest part is keeping track of loose change. Encourage students and their parents to pay by cheque or credit card.
......................................................................................................................................................................................

Q: How can the school get the parents involved?
A:
  • Attach a note to the student catalog reminding parents of the due date for orders.
  • You may want to send a letter home with the first Book Club offer encouraging them to participate.
  • Let parents know how important a home filled with books is for creating a lifelong reader.
  • Keep parents up-to-date on featured books that supplement what you are doing in the classroom.
  • Be sure to remind them, again, about the Book Clubs on Parent-Teacher meetings.
......................................................................................................................................................................................

Q: What type of schools qualify to participate in Scholastic Book Clubs?
A:

Playgroups, home schools, kindergartens, preschools, childcare centers, tuition and learning centres are welcome to run Book Club with Scholastic.
